“Tie-dye started in ancient China over 1,000 years ago...”

“First, twist your cloth like this... Then tie it with thread...”

“Finish dyeing? Let’s hang your works on the rope!”

Do you want to twist it or fold it? “,“Can you hand me the thread please?”悬挂作品时,老师会引导他们用英文描述作品特点,比如 “Tell me about your work in English. How did you fold it?”,让语言表达自然融入实践场景。

面对形态各异的作品,老师会鼓励学生观察差异、分析原因 ——“Why does her pattern look different from yours? Because she twisted more tightly!”,潜移默化培养学生的观察能力与逻辑思维。

Every work has its own beauty.”,帮助学生建立自信,培养审美素养与成长型思维。

Today, we had an awesome tie-dye workshop, and it was truly a memorable experience! Tie-dyeing is an ancient art with a history spanning over 1,500 years and it became the most popular in the Tang Dynasty, and let me tell you, it’s just as cool today! We learnt a lot at the workshop. The hands-on activity allowed us to dive into the world of DIY, and such practical experience really helped us understand the traditional culture better. We had great fun today!

Today’s class was so unusual! Our English teacher gathered all classes for a tie-dye workshop in the lecture hall, with our art teacher explaining tying tricks. We helped each other tying, laughing a lot as white cloth turned colourful. It was more fun than regular lessons we had in our classrooms——we learned hands-on skills and showed ourselves in front of the whole grade. I hope we can have more cool activities like this in the future.

I felt extremely excited during this activity. At first, Ms Yu taught us about the history of tie-dye, a charming and mysterious old art form. We got to know how beautiful this kind of art could be. Then came my favorite part—creating our own works of art! During this session, we designed tie-dyed items by ourselves, such as hair band, scarves, and bags. We tied them into all kinds of shapes and dyed them with indigo.
After half an hour of waiting, we finally got to see our works. When I saw the scarf I designed, I thought it was worth all my hard work! It was as beautiful as a fairy who wears a blue and white dress.
As a student, I definitely recommend this kind of project and really wish we can have more such activities in the rest of our school days. It not only allows us to join in DIY but also helps us realize the importance of preserving traditional art forms.

Today’s experience of tie-dyeing was truly unforgettable, sparking my deep affection and enthusiasm for DIY, especially tie-dyeing. Admittedly, everyone enjoyed themselves during the tie-dyeing session, even though materials were limited. Tie-dyeing plays an important role in our colourful culture, connecting us with the wisdom of our ancestors. It allows us to get hands-on these dynamic handicrafts and develop a stronger appreciation for our traditional culture. I’m looking forward to another DIY activity.

Tie-dye is a traditional Chinese art with a history of over 1,500 years. Today, I had my first chance to experience it myself. The most exciting part was when we untied the threads. How magical it was! Everyone’s pattern turned out unique. A sense of achievement filled the air. I believe tie-dye is a wonderful way for students to develop creativity and learn more about Chinese traditional culture. Just like tie-dye, every day may seem simple, but it holds its own unique beauty.

This afternoon, my classmates and I gathered to create our own tie-dye works. We started with plain white cloth, carefully folding and tying it before immersing it into large bowls of blue dye. I was truly amazed that such beautiful patterns could come from just a bowl of dye. Looking at my finished work, I felt incredibly proud of what I had created. How time flies when you're fully engaged in something enjoyable. This tie-dye experience not only brought us joy but also helped us appreciate the beauty of traditional crafts.

Today we learned tie-dye, an old art with a history of over 1500 years. With the beautiful tie-dye products and the interesting hands-on experience, it attracts me a lot. It was a day full of both learning and joy. This experience taught me that we only succeed by trying. Through tie-dye, I improved my hands-on skills and broadened my imagination. It is a memory I will always carry with me.

This afternoon, we went to the school hall for a wonderful activity: tie-dye. It was my first time trying this traditional art form. We learned the basic steps of creating tie-dye. First, we folded pieces of cloth and tied them with threads. Then, we dyed the cloth for about half an hour. Finally, we dried our work in the sun. When I saw my finished cloth, I was surprised by how perfect the patterns looked. I am proud of myself. Through today's activity, I got to know this ancient art form. It was both enjoyable and meaningful.

I think this activity is meaningful. I learned a traditional skill in this class and I made a cotton pouch with my own design. It’s not very easy to make but I tried my best and the final result was pretty good. I hope we can have more activities like this in the future!

The DIY activity was fun and I learned a lot from it. Ms Yu and Ms Zhu helped us to finish the tie-dye product and I know more about Chinese traditional culture now. There were a lot to choose from and I chose to make a hair band for my mom. I hope she will like it as it was designed and made by myself.

During the tie-dye activity, we twisted, folded, tided the cloth and dyed it blue and white. I got beautiful cloth with special patterns. I think it is a precious traditional culture of China and we should protect it. Also, learning new skills can save money and improve our creativity which is very important to us.

I had a great experience with tie-dye. We tried to shape the cloth as we like so it can have different patterns. It’s a pity that the final product was very different from what it was like before being dried. Although mine was not as successful as I hoped, I still find it really fun to get some hands-on experiences!
